Pour célébrer le printemps, Notre Dame de Paris arrive à Nice.To celebrate Spring, Notre Dame de Paris is coming to Nice!

Nearly twenty years after it premiered in Paris to both critical and popular acclaim, musical spectacular Notre Dame de Paris is coming to Nice for a three day run this April.

Set in 15th century Paris and based on the Victor Hugo masterpiece, the highly popular musical tells the story of Notre Dame cathedral bell ringer, the hunchback Quasimodo, and of his hopeless devotion for the beautiful gypsy girl, Esmeralda, who is being lusted after by the handsome, yet unfaithful, captain of the king’s archers, Phoebus, and by Frollo, a priest torn between his faith to God and his desires of the flesh.

As Gringoire, the poet, helplessly witnesses the tragedy unfold, the six other principal singers perform the beautiful score, composed by Richard Cocciante, with lyrics by Luc Plamondon, and which includes Le Temps des Cathedrals, Belle, and Vivre. Meanwhile, some 24 dancers and acrobats fly across the stage, break dance and gracefully arch their bodies to create an atmosphere similar to that of a French circus.

This poignant tale of impossible love may not have a happy ending, its many interwoven storylines remain today more relevant than ever with topics such as racism, refugees seeking asylum, and the role of religion. Hence the standing ovations every night!

Notre Dame de Paris has already attracted audiences of more than four million in France alone, and has been staged in more than 20 other countries, from Italy and the United Kingdom, to the United States and South Korea.

Only time will now tell whether the musical becomes the new Les Mis, but there is little doubt that it will capture many more hearts in the years to come with its timeless story of love and betrayal.

Notre Dame de Paris runs from the 21st to the 23rd of April at the Palais Nikaïa in Nice. Tickets range in price from 28€ to 69€ and can be purchased through all the usual outlets or reserved online.

The Bodyguard est maintenant une comédie musicale…Un évènement à ne pas manquer à Monaco en juin. The Bodyguard is now a musical…A not-to-be-missed  event in Monaco this coming June.

Back in 1992, Whitney Houston got her first acting role alongside Kevin Costner in The Bodyguard, a romantic comedy which soon became a classic love story, thanks in part to a great soundtrack.

Two decades later, the Lawrence Kasdan Oscar-nominated film was made into a very successful musical, which is coming to Monaco at the end of June for what should be an incredible run of shows.

Adapted for the stage by American playwright and Oscar winner Alexander Dinelaris and directed by Thea Sharrock, The Bodyguard had its world premiere in December 2012 at London’s Adelphi Theatre and opened to rave reviews, earning in the process four nominations for the Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical.

Fans of the film will not be disappointed as this stage version has all the ingredients that made the movie so poignant in the first place. Following the burgeoning relationship between a music superstar, Rachel Marron, and a former secret agent, Frank Turner hired to protect her from a mysterious stalker, the show features some of Houston’s biggest hits such as Queen of the Night, So Emotional, One Moment in Time, Saving All My Love, I’m Your Baby Tonight, Run to You or I Wanna Dance with Somebody, as well as, of course, one of the biggest selling songs of all time, I Will Always Love You.

Some may view the musical as an attempt to cash in on the recent death of Whitney Houston (after all, many tribute shows featuring the songs of Michael Jackson emerged shortly after the singer’s death), but the result here turns out to be a real treat for the eyes and the ears, and Alexandra Burke, an X-Factor winner in the UK who reprises the title role, brilliantly shows that things are in safe hands.

The Bodyguard – the Musical plays at the Grimaldi Forum at 8:30pm on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of June, and at 3pm on Sunday the 26th. Tickets range in price from €36 (for students under the age of 25) to €69 and can be purchased on the Grimaldi Forum Website. Running time is 140 minutes.

Les années 80 reviennent à Nice en Avril…Et tous les détails sont dans Riviera Buzz! The 80s are coming back to Nice in April and all the details are in Riviera Buzz!

Break out the leg warmers and get ready to relive the 80’s! Yes, Flashdance the Musical is coming to Nice this April!

Back in 1983, a little film about Alex Owens, a working class girl who works as a steel mill welder by day and a bar dancer at night, while dreaming of becoming a ballerina, became a surprise hit and a pop phenomenon that helped launch Jennifer Beals’ acting career. Now more than 30 years later, the leg warmers, off-the-shoulder sweatshirts and big hairdos are back as Flashdance the Musical is coming to the Nikaia in Nice for one night only on Sunday the 10th of April at 5 pm.

Based on the movie, this musical version actually premiered in England in 2008 and has enjoyed much success as a touring show since 2013. Featuring a book by Robert Cary and Tom Hedley, who produced the story and co-wrote the movie screenplay, it includes the much beloved hits such as Michael Sembello’s “Maniac,” Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock ‘n Roll,” Karen Karmon’s “Manhunt” and Irene Cara’s “What a Feeling”, as well as 16 additional songs written specifically for the show… And of course, the unforgettable water-splash dance and the iconic final audition scene whose moves have been imitated in videos by the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Gerri Halliwell.

Just like the screen version, Flashdance the Musical is full of energy with an athletic cast, electrifying dance numbers and a set design inspired by the gritty urban glory of 1980s-era Pittsburgh streets to tell a familiar story of creativity, perseverance and friendship.

Musicals based on popular, hit movies have been the trend lately from Dirty Dancing to Bodyguard and while some are mediocre at best, Flashdance thrives at being a wonderful tribute to an era where everything still seemed possible, with a message that speaks to all: No matter what, never give up on your dreams!

Tickets range in price from 30€ to 56€ and can be purchased through all the usual outlets or reserved online.

Dirty dancing

Dust off your dancing shoes for the sizzling musical extravaganza “Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story on Stage” this October at the Nikaia in Nice.

Adapted from the successful movie of the same name, the show has all of the elements of the timeless coming of age love story that has enchanted scores of women, and a few men too, for decades. Not surprising really, as both were written by Eleanor Bergstein. Since its creation in 2004, the stage version has been seen by millions during its ongoing global tour, so the local audience is sure to be in for a real treat.

Featuring more than 20 actors, all of whom are professionally trained dancers, and the amazing choreography of Craig Wilson, the spectacular musical takes you back to the Summer of 1963 as the young Frances “Baby” Houseman arrives with her family for a three-week vacation in the Catskill Mountains. After witnessing dance instructor Johnny Castle perform steamy numbers with his partner, she feels a new passion awakening in her and soon, she will not only learn how to move, she will also find true love.

The stage adaptation of Dirty Dancing follows the film’s dialogue almost word for word. Even those who have never seen the original movie featuring Jennifer Gray and the late Patrick Swayze, will be familiar with the soundtrack that has sold over 44 million copies worldwide, and includes hits such as She’s Like the Wind, Hungry Eyes, This Magic Moment and (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.
