With the sad demise of the Crazy Week music festival, Ville de Nice has stepped up to the plate with a new offering – Nice Music Live.

For years, the Crazy Week Festival in Nice was the go-to event for music affcionados on the French Riviera. Thanks to a superb location – the Jardins Albert 1er -, an eclectic programme, and some big names from the music scene – Mika, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Asaf Avidan, Shaka Ponk, Skip the Use, Dionysos, Julien DoréSimple Minds – it attracted an enthusiastic audience over each of the five nights, each of the five years of its existance. But, as often happens, all good things come to an end, and after a failed crowdfunding campaign last December, the company behind the event, Ivoire Music, filed for bankruptcy.

Thankfully, the Ville deNice could not stand idly by as another festival in the region got cancelled – the Voix du Garou in Le Var had already gone silent – and decided to step in. It recently announced the creation of the first ever Nice Music Live, which will start right after the jazz festival in the hope of keeping the momentum alive.

And for this first edition, it can boast some big international stars. Belgian singer-songwriter Selah Sue will kick off the festival on the 15th of July in the Théâtre de Verdure with her soulful voice and catchy sound. Four years after conquering European charts with her self titled debut album, the young artist is back with a sophomore record,Reason, which once again is a mixture of soul, folk, and reggae.

She will be followed on Friday by French DJ David Guetta for a night of dance music on Place Masséna. Guetta needs no introduction. After years of spinning records, he busted on the musical scene in 2009 when he teamed up with former Destiny Child star Kelly Rowland on When Love Takes Over. Since then, he has worked with numerous vocalists such as will.i.am, Nicki Minaj and Snoop Dogg and become one of the biggest-selling artists in the world.

The last evening will be back in the Théâtre de Verdure and will feature American violinist Lindsey Sterling as well as Scottish rock band Twin Atlantic.

The festival will take place from the 15th to the 18th of July at the Théâtre de Verdure and Place Masséna. Tickets cost from €26.40 to €63.80 and are available from all the usual outlets.
